I was on the road and constantly moving ALL of last year without ever digging to the bottom of my storage benches or really even cleaning out the corners of my van (which was very much needed). So we’ve been taking a bit of a breather in Tahoe with @theasherhouse to reset and enjoy these last couple weeks of staying put. I never realize how important it is to slow down until I’m actually doing it. For now, the plan is to explore California until it starts to warm up and then head all the way to Alaska ??? My goal is to move as slow as possible to soak up everything throughout the PNW and British Columbia. I’ve never been north of Portland so I’m SUUUPER excited to see what this year in crazy, new places will bring. – Also, check out last week’s podcast episode with my parents if you haven’t already! They give great advice to parents/guardians whose loved one wants to live a different type of lifestyle. Plus advice to the loved one on how to best approach the conversation! ❤️ I love hearing your thoughts on each episode so let me know what you think once you listen. HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS. ? PS: you’ll never meet a dog with a bigger attitude than Ella ? This picture speaks for itself.

I’ve been getting quite a few repeat questions lately and I never want it to feel like I’m hiding anything or have some secret that allows me to do what I’m doing. I’m always an open book and want you to know the answer to anything you may have been wondering whether it’s van life, my life, having a dog on the road, etc. Here are the answers to a few of the most commonly asked questions but if you have something else, I would be happy to answer whatever you’ve got. ❤️ – I do live in the van full- time and don’t have any property or apartment anywhere. I consider my home base to be Indiana where I visit family every 4 to 5 months. – You’re sweet for asking, but no I do not want a (human) co- pilot. ? – When I leave Ella in the van, I close the pocket door which blocks heat from the front. I put up the insulated window covers which blocks heat from the back. With the front windows cracked and the vent fan on, it makes the van much cooler than you’d probably expect. I also leave plenty of water in her bowl. If I think it’s still too warm, I simply don’t leave her inside. She comes with me 99% of the time anyways. – My website is how I generate an income on the road. I do affiliate marketing, advertising, and offer a mentorship program for anyone trying to build a website and make money from it. I’m also currently working on a few products of my own which will be done very soon! I’ve worked hard to make the website get plenty of traffic through search engines instead of Instagram which is why I don’t talk about it very often here. (But I do love talking about this stuff so seriously ask me anything you want.) – I take all of my own photos! I have a tripod and a timer on the camera. I usually set it to take a photo every second for 20-30 seconds. That gives me plenty of options and then I just edit in Lightroom on my laptop… usually several days later ? – Anything else, just leave down below and I’ll answer everything! Have a wonderful week, my loves. ?

When I was growing up, close friends and family always made fun of my dirty feet. I would run bare foot through the neighborhood to my friends’ houses and play outside for hours once I got there. My hair was always tangled and my nails were always darkened from the dirt underneath. Makeup was foreign and products didn’t exist. Appearance was a concept I didn’t even consider. But then I got to high school and everything changed. I started getting embarrassed by their judgement. I started wearing makeup because I became convinced I was ugly without it. I spent money on fake nails so people would stop calling me a “tom boy”. I ruined my hair with bleach to be as blonde as possible… I think maybe I’m so happy now because I feel more like a kid than I have in years. I run barefoot with my dogs and they never care about my dirty feet. I wash my hair when I wash my hair and no one is here to tell me to brush it. I do yoga mid hike and walk away with the same darkened nails I had back then. Self care looks different for us all and mine has nothing to do with what I look like anymore. I take care of myself now in ways that matter to me. Your child self was likely right all along. Judgement from others always fades and does nothing but confuse you about who you really are. And maybe next time you jokingly poke fun at a friend’s appearance, think about how it could impact them. Never be the person to change someone else. Try running barefoot beside them instead or just step out the way while they do. – New podcast episode all about hygiene on the road is out now. I talk all things shower, toilet, laundry, and taking care of *yourself*. Search “My Solo Road” wherever you get your podcasts.
